Thankful

Laif Olson

Transplant Recipient, North Dakota

  • Liver, October 21, 2018, Mayo Clinic

In 2002 I was diagnosed with a liver disease and I have been visiting Mayo Clinic a few times a year since then. My family and I always knew that a liver transplant was coming my way. I started to get very sick the summer of 2018. Several week long visits to Mayo followed the months of July, August and September of 2018. After almost passing away the morning of October 3rd my wife, Kathy, and I were taken by air ambulance to Rochester, MN on October 7th.

My new liver will allow me to live a full and healthy life in the company of family & friends. What a wonderful gift my donor has given

The condition of my liver and kidneys continued to worsen. On October 20th (my Dad’s 88 birthday) I was notified that a matching liver had been found and my transplant surgery was completed on October 21st. The transplant has been a big success. Without the transplant I would most likely be dead by now. My health continues to improve and I feel stronger and better every day. I can hardly believe how great I feel when just a few weeks ago I was near death.

I am so very thankful to my donor and her family. My donor saved my life and she will be my hero forever. I will tell anyone who will listen the story of my donor and her selfless act will live with me forever.

To the family of my donor I want to offer a sincere”thank you”. Our prayers are with you.

My best wishes to my donor and her family from Laif Olson and Family.
